Is Your Managing Team Performance Strategy Just "Guesswork"

This is My Story

Is Your Managing Team Performance Strategy Mainly Just "Guesswork"?

 "Trial and error"...

A "Let’s see if this works" approach?

Or, do you have confidence that the way you communicate will definitely make your team perform better and at the same time feel motivated?

If you are "guessing", don't feel bad... you're not alone. For my first few years as a manager, that's what I did too.

And it worked… for a while.

I was able to lead a team with 100 people by working late nights with every performance-management approach recommended to me by the "experts" in the leadership space.

From paid and free trainings...
To live courses...
To webinars…
To books...
To my manager and my mentor advice... and the list goes on.

And while some of them worked, most of them didn't.
The hardest part was though...

No matter how much time, effort, and money I'd throw at figuring out how to manage team performance...

I'd NEVER feel confident that my communication would actually work….

I'd just hope and wish that my team member will leave my office with a smile, with an insight or with a breakthrough... but I was never, ever sure.

As my manager role expanded, and I had more direct report lines looking to me for coaching and advice...
I realised that this "guessing game" wouldn't cut it anymore if I wanted to serve my team well.

So I Did Something Most Managers Only Dream Of Doing...

I decided to stop guessing, and take a hard look at all of my most successful relationships at work...

And reverse engineer what had worked for them.

100 people in my team... These were people in various locations who I'd hired, trained and managed. People who I had one to one meetings four times per month to talk about their performance and once a month to talk about their growth and personal development, people who I sat down every week to review business metrics and discuss strategy.

I started to dissect every successful interaction I'd had..

For Example:

Reverse engineered my 1:1 meetings, to find which questions I asked that lead people to the real changes in their behaviour.

I deep dived into my team IDPs, to uncover which conversations truly boosted their performance...

I reviewed the results from their annual reviews, to see where I helped people to become best professional and personal selves...

I revisited our meetings to see which style of communication program was resonating most with the team and made them leave the room with a smile and fully inspired...

.. and that's just the beginning!

Through every one successful people conversation that I had...
There was ONE core underlying framework that worked everytime.

What framework ?
Coaching !

If you want to become a brilliant manager in the shortest amount of time possible, you don’t need to attend 100+ hours programs or read through a dozen of complex books …

Instead, you simply want to focus on learning and mastering these 4 Fundamentals of Coaching...

  • Formulating Objectives...

  • Manager’s Presence: Active Listening...

  • Manager’s Presence: Asking Powerful Questions…

  • And Not Knowing.

And that’s it!

As I looked at all the most successful people I'd managed, I realised that by using that strategy, I'd helped them perform at their best and consistently...
Without the guesswork.
When I realised that The Power Coaching had been working under my nose for so long, I decided to go and take a Coaching Skills Course.
My goal was simple: I wanted to upskill myself and Level My Career Up so I could help my team to perform at their best consistently without the guesswork...

The Result? SUCCESS!

As soon as I knew the actual techniques and strategies how to coach people effectively, my team started flourishing, my team satisfaction survey rating went up and more and more people really wanted to work in me team.
I had a simple, 4-step coaching the team for performance system that most managers only ever dream of having.
My  People Performance Management Secret...

Ever since I simplified my managing people strategy down to just these 4 parts, my leadership style has changed…
Because I have less to worry about, less to do, and less time to spend on conversations that do not yield long lasting results.

This simple approach is about working with people and focusing on people. Focusing on Who, not What to lead your team to success...
Over the past 5 years, I've practicing this approach with various teams around the world, I trained managers to use the same strategy in their life.
